From the Putra-kamyeshti yajna to crossing over to Lanka after building the Ramsetu, dates of all sequential events mentioned in Valmiki Ramayan are verifiable and cover the period from 5116 BCE to 5076 BCE. For example, a planetarium displays the planetary positions at the time of Shri Ram's birth on 10th January, 5114 BCE, which was Chaitra Shukla Navami. The Solar eclipse before the war with Khar Dushan was visible from Panchavati on 7th October 5077 BCE, which was the day of Paush Amavasya.

There are more than 400 versions of the Ramayana, each with a different title, yet they are all categorised as Ramayana. All languages originate as oral and develop in writing, with grammar emerging much later. In ancient Bharat, the Shruti Smriti tradition was very strong, and it continues to this day in Vedic Path-shalas. Valmiki JI composed the Ramayan during the lifetime of Shri Ram. This was passed on to the world by Luv Kush by singing it in Ram Darbar during the Ashwa medha yajna organised in Naimishh Aaranya. For many years, it was passed on through Shruti Samriti Parampara and reduced to writing many years later. More than 300 versions under different titles were written during the last 1500 years and we categorise all of these as Ramayan.
